Stress has become a part(ner) of our life. What is the
reason behind this and how, many people are handling them and how to handle in
my perspective is the contents of the following write up.
I was blessed with very good childhood and friends and when
I look back and recollect my childhood days, most of them are spent with my
both maternal and paternal grandparents. During my summer vacation, my parents
used to leave me and my brother in my maternal grandparents house. The beauty
is, my maternal grandparents were living in a joint family and in those days a
family comprises of minimum of 8 members and maximum is your imagination. From
dawn till dusk, the whole house used to talk, sing and dance through its
occupants.
If I can properly recollect, in those days there were no air
conditioners or mobile phones. Fridge and grinders came gradually. Television came
with big antennas above its head and with heavy wiring. Mosquitoes was a menace
but was fought with mosquito coils with doors kept open for the want of air.
Overall area of house was very humble enough to support all its occupants and
yet in that system everyone was living in a gleeful manner. I am leaving my
childhood reminiscences right here and coming to the present scenario.
These days, people want to walk when they are required to
just stand and run when they are required to walk. Everyone is in a tensed mood
because they carry it over from various places. It can be from their work
place, or of their peer pressure or even from their friends. The want of more
and more and finally ending up in insatiable requirements, both in personal and
other spheres shall cost an individual dearer. By now, you could have figured
out the root cause for stress. Else, read on.
“This root cause” may not necessarily be associated with the
individual undergoing stress. Many social factors may force an individual
directly or indirectly to do certain things in order to showcase themselves that
they are upto the requirements of the society and while doing this, they
undergo a lot of stress because they are not doing that for themselves but for
the sake of society. This is one of the aspects and you can fit N number
examples into this.
Further, stress is just a state of mind and many people
realize them sooner or later while they undergo and think of fighting them
back. For this, they go to many therapeutic sessions and pay heavily for these
sessions. As long as there are fools, people around them are ready to cheat
them in a sophisticated manner. Secondly, they go spiritual and go to certain
“holy groups” and overnight become religious. Whenever I hear these, I cannot
help but laugh because many people resort to God as a fallback mechanism
without realizing that He is always with them and these people are money
plunderers in His name. Lastly, people try changing their diet patterns, by
removing certain food and adding new food which is critically acclaimed to
reduce stress. Our Indians are one of the laziest people in the world, who try
to fight diabetics by having sugarcane juice, instead of raw sugarcane.
Let me take you back to my sweet old memories. Stress was
not a mind boggling issue as it is right now. People during my childhood used
to speak out their problems not to psychiatrists and therapists, but to their
own parents, uncles and aunts and siblings. There was a physical affection and
people were close to each other. If I suffer from headache, my cousin sister
shall apply medicine in my forehead by resting my head on her lap and she used
to sing and make me believe that her songs will make all the pains go away.
Only after growing up, I realized that whatever medicine she applied was
nothing but scented oil and it was placebo. End of the day I had siblings who
loved me and I had no reason to get stressed. Today, we are ready to give money
and ask someone else who are no way related to us to do the same thing, what
our grandparents and parents did to us in our childhood. What a shame?
If you want to fight stress, then fight your greed which is
the root cause.
